A kabuki brush has a short, densely packed head that swirls and stipples face paint evenly across the skin. In face painting it is the go-to stencil brush: it pushes colour through a stencil with crisp edges and no drips, builds smooth base coverage faster than a sponge, and blends one colour softly into the next. Choosing your kabuki
- Flat-top: firm, even coverage for stencils and bases
- Domed: softer, diffused colour for blending edges
- Small: tight areas, eyes and small stencils
- Large: cheeks, foreheads and big stencil designs
Using a kabuki with a stencil: lightly mist the brush, swirl it into a face paint cake or split cake
to load, then tap off the excess. Hold the stencil flat against the skin and swirl or stipple from the edges inwards
